Men’s golf places fifth at Binghamton University Invitational

Hamilton College Billy Geach ’23 and Ramon Aroca Gonzalez ’26 led the Continentals to fifth place out of 10 teams at the 2022 Binghamton University Matthews Auto Collegiate Men’s Golf Invitational, held at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, NY on October 2-3.

Geach is tied for fifth out of 59 golfers with an even score of 144 for 36 holes. His tournament tally tied his career high, which he first set at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational last year. Geach’s 72 on Sunday was Hamilton’s fastest lap of the day.

Aroca Gonzalez is tied for eighth at 1-of-145. He shot a 1-under 71 on Monday which was the best round of the day for the Continentals. He leads the team with an 18-hole stroke average that is just over 73 per round.

Will Whittaker ’25 tied for 35e at 155 which included a final of 74. Tommy Kantaros ’24 tied 41st at 156 which included a 76 in the first round. Tyler Tornoe ’25 contributed a 77 on Sunday.

Jacob Zeng ’24 played individually and tied for 24e place at 151. Zeng recorded a career-best 71 in the first round on Sunday.

Hamilton came out on top in a tournament featuring eight Division I teams. The Continentals posted a team-four score of 299 and were tied for fourth place after the first round. Hamilton fell back to fifth on the final day despite a team score of 297 for a tournament total of 596. Lehigh University won the team title at 575, La Salle University was second at 581 and Niagara University finished third at 589.

The Continentals wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with the Skidmore College Invitational at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course in Saratoga Springs, NY on October 8-9.
