Fiorentina owner makes honest transfer request for Dusan Vlahovic after Arsenal rejection in January
Fiorentina owner Rocco B. Commisso has claimed Dusan Vlahovic made the wrong choice by joining Juventus in January, having struggled since the switch. It comes after Arsenal were reportedly rejected by the Serb for a possible transfer in January.
Instead, the Gunners didn’t sign a single player, opting to narrow their squad further with a number of squad options. This left Mikel Arteta short of numbers at times, with the team ultimately missing out on a top four finish.
Despite all this, the Spaniard had defended the decision not to sign anyone back in February, saying: “We had a clear plan of what we can do, but it has to be doable. Edu and his team have done a great job. We “We are very clear, we only want the best people and the best players at this club. When we are in a hurry and the reasons to sign a player are not the right ones, we don’t do it.

One of the players strongly linked with a move was Vlahovic, who had impressed at Fiorentina so far. The Serbian international had shown plenty of promise at just 22, with the Gunners needing a goalscorer up front.
While an approach was said to have been made, the striker denied the move in favor of Juventus late in the window. Since joining the Bianconeri, he has scored seven league goals in 15 appearances.
However, this led to Fiorentina owner Commisso criticizing his decision to leave the club. He said, via gifn: “I don’t know how many months they (Vlahovic’s camp) were talking to Juventus, but a week later, after he didn’t want Arsenal, Real [Madrid]and Atletico, Juventus came forward and we reached an agreement.
“The situation unfolded like this: but if they had signed a contract with us, he would have done better than what he is doing at Juventus.” It shows that, perhaps, the Gunners dodged a bullet by not signing the striker when they did.
With Vlahovic no longer an option, Arteta’s attention will turn to forwards they can sign this summer with the right profile for the club.
