Diana Schwarz Wins All-NESCAC Second Team Honors
HADLEY, Mass. – Front of Wesleyan field hockey Diana schwarz ’23 was named to the All-NESCAC second team, as voted on by league head coaches and announced by the conference board on Wednesday morning. She helped guide the Cardinals to their best season since 2012 and gives Wesleyan an All-Conference player in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2012-13. Schwarz also becomes the first Cardinal forward selected to an All-NESCAC team since Morgan McCauley ’12 in 2011. Schwarz enjoyed a groundbreaking junior campaign for the Cardinals as she led the team in goals (10) and points (23) while starting all 15 games this season. On the heels of a rookie season in which she scored six team-leading goals, Schwarz nearly doubled her production in 2021 while becoming Wesleyan’s first double-digit goalscorer since 2010. She also added three assists to his goal tally after failing to register an assist in 2019. Schwarz scored three multi-goal games in 2021, including a career-high seven-point night at Mount Holyoke on September 15, where she became the first Cardinale to achieve a hat trick since 2012. She scored both goals for Wesleyan in the Cardinals’ thrilling shootout victory over then-No. Nationally ranked 8 Trinity at home on September 28.
Wesleyan concluded a 2021 season with a score of 7-8, which is the Cardinals’ highest single-season winning tally since 2012. Additionally, the Cardinals have won their most league games ( three) since 2013 while producing a record of victories. at home for the first time since 2011.
