“President Biden promised a whole-of-government approach to addressing climate change and advancing the clean energy economy when he took office, and today’s announcement once again delivers on that promise. These actions — which include the largest offshore wind lease in U.S. history, renewed interagency coordination on offshore wind, transmission line upgrades to prepare for cleaner energy, and accelerated deployment onshore clean energy on public lands – will increase clean energy production, create well-paying jobs and reduce energy costs.

“Essentially, in pursuing the sustainability of these new offshore wind leases, tenants will need to identify all tribes, underserved communities and other stakeholders potentially impacted by their projects and maintain ongoing engagement as the projects move forward. The coordination between NOAA and BOEM, as outlined in the White House announcement, is also intended to support the administration’s commitment to offshore wind growth without understanding marine resource protection and support. to other ocean users.

“The Biden administration’s work here will support real progress on clean energy. But to fully seize the opportunities of a clean economy, Congress must deliver on historic climate and clean energy investments in the Build Back Better Act.
