Arsenal set for summer talks over defender as Mikel Arteta and Edu make transfer decision
Arsenal will open discussions this summer with Real Betis over the permanent transfer of Hector Bellerin, football.london understand. The 27-year-old is currently on loan from the Gunners after asking to leave the club in January.
Bellerin has made 19 La Liga appearances this season and has established himself as a regular for the team. He recently revealed that the decision to join his boyhood club was made after consulting an analytics firm to find the best fit for him.
“I don’t know what people will think, but the projection given to me by big data was that Betis were going to have a very good year this season, so you can see how these machines are performing,” Bellerin said.

“I used it a lot for that stuff, I think the stats show everything but sometimes not the most important thing too. I think in some way a player can affect the game in a way that cannot be calculated with numbers.
Bellerin’s contract with Arsenal expires in the summer of 2023, although the Gunners are believed to have the option of a one-year extension which they could trigger in order to protect the player’s value.
Betis sporting director Antonio Cordon says negotiations have not yet started with Arsenal over a permanent transfer.
“We haven’t negotiated with Arsenal yet and we haven’t talked about the future,” he said. “We have to wait and see how the season ends.”
