Arsenal push for £66m Lucas Paqueta transfer as Edu wants to sign ‘the next Thierry Henry’

Arsenal continue to fight for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season despite a difficult few weeks.

Mikel Arteta’s side have lost their last three Premier League games but are still just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have also played one more league game this season. Regardless of whether or not the Gunners can find their way back to winning ways, they will still have an extremely busy summer transfer window and understands that technical director Edu is keen to bring in at least one centre-forward, with a midfielder and a full-back likely to be targeted as well.

In this spirit, have rounded up some of the latest transfer rumors surrounding the North Londoners.

Interest from Lucass Paqueta

Brazilian transfer guru Jorge Nicola has reported that Arsenal is one of the clubs interested in Lyon star Lucas Paqueta. Paqueta enjoyed a hugely productive season with the Ligue 1 side, scoring 10 goals and providing six more assists.

Nicola claims Edu is particularly keen on the player, who could cost up to €80m (£66m) this summer. This comes after Italian outlet Calciomercato previously claimed that the Gunners and Paris Saint-Germain were monitoring the Brazil international’s situation.

Newly wealthy Newcastle United have also been linked with the 24-year-old in recent months.

Lautaro Martinez shot

Arsenal need at least one centre-forward after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona during the January window while Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are in the final three months of their respective contracts at the Emirates Stadium . One name that has always been linked with a move to the club is Inter Milan leader Lautaro Martinez.

However, Tutomercatoweb have now reported that the player is awaiting a transfer to Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. It’s currently unclear whether or not any of the five aforementioned clubs will make a move for Martinez, but his alleged preference certainly makes a move to North London less likely.

Pursuit of Gakpo

Arsenal have also been heavily linked with a move for PSV Eindhoven starlet Cody Gakpo recently. Dutch outlet From Telegraaf reported that the talented striker caught the eye of the Gunners after a superb run of form which saw him score 18 goals and provide 13 extra assists in all competitions this term.

In the same way, claimed the chances of the 22-year-old staying until his current PSV contract expires in 2025 are ‘zero’ due to interest from Arsenal. The report also compares his style of play with French icon Thierry Henry, calling him ‘Dutch Thierry Henry’.
