Arsenal ‘interested’ in £142m star dubbed ‘Premier League’s best player’
Arsenal are expected to compete with Aston Villa for the signing of Philippe Coutinho.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Brazilian playmaker for the past few years before he joined Steven Gerrard’s side on loan in the January transfer window. he enjoyed a hugely productive two months in the West Midlands, registering four goals and three assists in just nine Premier League outings.
Now, Mundo Deportivo have claimed Villa are set to face fierce competition from the Gunners this summer, with Mikel Arteta apparently keen on the Barcelona star. Should technical director Edu strike a deal to sign his compatriot, Arsenal would get a top-notch player if Gary Lineker’s comments live up to it.

speaking on BBC Match of the Day Top 10 PodcastsLineker said: “Coutinho, he’s a breathtakingly talented footballer. He didn’t quite do it at Barcelona, did he?
“We’ve seen it at Liverpool, bending them in the top corner. Sometimes when players go to a monster club football, it can be a bit too much for you.
“People think there’s a lot of pressure on players at clubs in this country. I’ve had a good start [at Barcelona] and quite enjoyed that side of things. The best part of my game was my mental toughness. To understand what it is over there, it’s so much bigger than anything here.”
Manchester City hero Micah Richards also weighed in, saying Coutinho was the Premier League’s best player before leaving Liverpool for £142million.
Richards added: “I’m surprised it didn’t work out for him, I thought it would have been perfect for him. When he left [Liverpool]he was the best player in the league, right?
